vCard QR Code

Free vCard & Business Card QR Code Generator

Put your contact card on your business card. Name, phone, email, company, title and website encode straight into the QR — one scan, one tap, and you're in the scanner's address book in three seconds. No app, no typing.

Quick answer

A vCard QR code — what most people mean by a business card QR code — encodes your full contact card in the VCF format, so one scan opens a native Save Contact dialog with every field already filled. To make one, enter your details, add your colours and logo, and download a PNG, SVG, or PDF. Free, no watermark, never expires.

PNG, JPG or SVG. Recommended 200x200px.

About vCard QR Codes

A vCard QR is a digital business card: the same contact details a paper card carries, packed into a scannable code that saves in one tap instead of being retyped by hand. vCard QRs ride the BEGIN:VCARD ... END:VCARD format — the universal contact-card standard that's powered every "save contact" exchange since the 1990s. The QR encodes a full multi-line vCard with name, phone, email, company, job title, website, and address. The scanner's camera decodes it and the OS shows a native Save Contact dialog with every field pre-populated. The person taps Save and you're in their contacts forever.

The alternative — handing them your card, them squinting at the print, them typing 15 fields into their address book later (or never) — fails 80% of the time. A printed paper card without a QR ends up in a drawer; a card with a vCard QR ends up in the saver's phone within seconds of the handshake. For real estate agents, recruiters, consultants, conference networkers, and any role where the goal is "be in the prospect's contacts" — this is the single highest-leverage QR type.

EZQR generates vCard QRs free with no watermark, no signup, and no expiration. The vCard data lives entirely inside the QR pattern — there's no server lookup, no internet needed to save, no dependency on EZQR running. Print a card today; the QR keeps saving contacts forever.

How to Create a vCard QR Code

  1. Fill in the core contact fields

Name (first + last), mobile or work phone in international format (+1 555 123 4567), business email, company name, and job title. These five fields produce the cleanest, most-saved vCards. Don't cram every optional field — denser QRs scan slower.

  2. Add website and social handles selectively

Website URL goes in the URL field — typically your booking page, portfolio, or company site. LinkedIn URL works in the URL field too if that's the primary destination. Each added field increases QR density; pick the 1-2 destinations that actually matter.

  3. Brand the QR with your colors and logo

Match your business-card or email-signature palette. Logo in the center, under 20% of the code area. Keep contrast above 4:1 between modules and background. A branded vCard QR on a paper card reads as a legitimate professional asset; a stock black-on-white QR reads like a phishing sticker.

  4. Download SVG for business-card printing

SVG is the format business-card print shops want — it scales to any card size without losing sharpness. PNG for digital signatures, email footers, and Slack profile photos. PDF for full-print-shop orders. Minimum 2 cm × 2 cm on business cards (close-range scan).

  5. Save your own contact to test

Scan from your own phone first, tap Save, and inspect the resulting contact in your phone's address book. Verify every field saved correctly — name spelling, phone country code, email casing, URL protocol. A typo in 500 printed business cards is a $200 reprint.

vCard QR Code FAQ

Common questions about generating, printing, and deploying these codes.

What is the difference between a vCard QR code and a VCF QR code?

There is no difference. They are the same thing under two names. vCard is the format; .vcf (Virtual Contact File) is the filename extension that format is saved under, which is why a downloaded contact arrives as contact.vcf. A QR code encoding vCard data and one encoding VCF data are identical, because the QR holds the contact text itself rather than a link to a file. Two practical notes. If you already have a .vcf exported from Outlook, Google Contacts, or the iOS Contacts app, open it in any text editor and paste the contents into the generator — the BEGIN:VCARD through END:VCARD block is exactly what gets encoded. Strip any embedded photo first. Base64 photo data runs several thousand characters and pushes the symbol past the density a phone camera resolves at business-card size.

What information can a vCard QR code hold?

The full vCard 3.0 / 4.0 spec: name (first/last/middle/prefix/suffix), multiple phone numbers (home, work, mobile, fax), multiple email addresses (work, personal), company name, job title, website URLs, physical address, birthday, photo, notes field, and social profile URLs. But fewer fields means a faster-scanning code. Five fields (name, phone, email, company, title) is the sweet spot for business cards.

How does it work when someone scans?

The phone's camera decodes the vCard payload locally and the OS shows a native Save Contact dialog with every field pre-populated. On iPhone, this is the Contacts app modal; on Android, it's the Google Contacts (or Samsung Contacts) save sheet. The user taps Save and you're in their address book in 3 seconds. The scan-to-save flow is the smoothest of any QR type — same as Apple's NameDrop, no install needed.

Does it work without internet?

Yes — the entire vCard payload is encoded directly into the QR pattern. The scanner decodes it locally and the OS's contact app saves it locally. No network round-trip, no cloud lookup, no server dependency. This is why static vCard QRs are the most durable QR type alongside text and Wi-Fi — they keep working forever, including in cellular dead zones at the conference venue.

Can I update my contact info after printing the card?

Static vCard QRs encode the data permanently — once it's printed, the saved contact is fixed. To update without reprinting (you change jobs, get a new phone number, or switch companies), use a dynamic vCard QR on the Lite plan ($5/mo). The printed code redirects to a hosted vCard URL; you update the vCard from the dashboard and every future scan saves the new info. Existing scans that already saved your old info don't automatically refresh.
