About Cash App QR Codes
You taped a printout of your Cash App QR to the tip jar last month. Half the customers aimed their camera at it and nothing happened, because the image you printed was the in-app personal QR — the kind only Cash App's own scanner reads. Cash App actually supports two different QR patterns, and printing the wrong one is the single most common mistake we see.
Your public Cash App handle is a $cashtag, and every $cashtag has a matching web URL at cash.app/$yourtag. Encode that URL into a QR code with EZQR and any phone camera — iOS, Android, an old iPhone 8, a three-year-old Galaxy — opens it as a deep link. If Cash App is installed, the app jumps straight to your payment screen with your name and photo and the amount field ready. If it's not installed, the link opens cash.app in the mobile browser, where the visitor can pay or install in one tap.
EZQR generates that QR for free, with no watermark, no signup, and no expiration. Static codes survive cancellation. If you upgrade later for analytics and then downgrade, your printed jar keeps working. We built the honest version of this tool because the Cash App fee structure already has enough math in it.
Walkthrough
How to Create a Cash App QR Code
Copy your $cashtag URL, not the in-app QR
In Cash App's profile tab, find your
$cashtagand pastecash.app/$yourtaginto the field above. Skip the in-app QR image — that only Cash App's own scanner reads.Add an amount for a one-tap flow
Append a number to pre-fill the amount:
cash.app/$yourtag/5opens with $5 ready. Leave it off for tip jars where customers pick their own.Brand the code so it looks like yours
Add your colors and logo. Keep contrast above 4:1 between dark modules and the background. Branded codes read as legitimate; naked black-on-white can look like someone slapped a sticker over yours.
Download the right format
PNG for digital. SVG for print at scale — stickers, decals, signs. PDF for print shops. Minimum 2 inches square for tip jars; 4+ inches for wall signs scanned from across a room.
Test on a phone without Cash App installed
Borrow a phone without Cash App, aim the camera, and confirm the browser shows your
$cashtagwith your name and photo. If a stranger's profile shows up, the URL is wrong — reprint costs more than this 30-second check.
Where it works
Cash App QR Code Use Cases
Coffee shop tip jars where baristas route tips to one shared $cashtag instead of doing split-cash math at end of shift.
Street performers and buskers taping the QR to the inside of a guitar case — Cash App is the most-installed P2P app among US tippers under 35.
Freelance designers and consultants pasting cash.app/$yourtag/250 into invoice PDFs as a fallback when the client won't deal with PayPal.
Independent food trucks and farmers' market vendors printing a counter card alongside Venmo and Zelle codes — let the customer pay with whatever's already on their home screen.
Small church and nonprofit donation tables at Sunday services and school fundraisers — Cash App for Business takes 2.75% per transaction, less than most card-reader rates.
Hair stylists, nail techs, and barbers in booth-rental setups where clients add a tip post-appointment without fishing for cash.
Side-hustle resellers at flea markets, vintage popups, and craft fairs where renting a Square reader isn't worth the monthly fee for two days of sales.
Bitcoin acceptance for customers who'd rather pay in BTC — Cash App supports Bitcoin send and receive in most US states from the same $cashtag URL.
What works in practice
Cash App QR Code Best Practices
Use the cash.app/$yourtag URL, not the personal QR image exported from the Cash App profile tab — the in-app one only works with Cash App's own scanner.
Label the code with the platform name. A counter card showing only a QR gets ignored; one that reads Cash App — $yourtag gets used.
Print the $cashtag as plain text below the code so customers who can't get a clean scan, or who'd rather type, can enter it manually in five seconds.
Turn on Cash App for Business once you're past a handful of payments a week. Personal accounts have weekly limits and no business tax reporting — both become problems fast.
For pre-filled amounts (tip tiers, fixed donation asks, flat service fees), use cash.app/$yourtag/5 style URLs and generate one QR per amount.
For tip jars where customers pick their own number, leave the URL bare and let them set the value in the app.
Keep a quiet zone of ~10% of the code width on all sides. Scanners need that empty margin to find the edges; printing flush against another graphic kills reliability.
Use a dynamic EZQR code ($5/mo Lite plan) if you want scan counts, device data, or the ability to repoint the same printed code at a different $cashtag later.
