About Venmo QR Codes
You printed your Venmo QR on a sign, and the first customer who scanned it sent $40 to the wrong person. The username has a typo. The sign goes in the dumpster. We have watched this happen on counter signage, tip jars, market stall placards, and laminated invoices, and it is the single most expensive mistake a Venmo QR can make. The fix is not exotic — it is making sure the QR encodes the correct profile URL, on the correct kind of Venmo profile, with the correct expectations around fees and limits.
Venmo gives you two profiles that look almost identical from the outside and behave very differently underneath. A personal account lets friends pay friends with a $4,999.99 weekly send limit and no fee on standard transfers. A Venmo Business profile is its own account type, charges merchants 1.9% plus $0.10 per transaction, files a 1099-K once you cross the IRS threshold, and is the only profile Venmo's terms of service allow you to use for charging customers. Using a personal Me QR to ring up sales is a TOS violation, and Venmo has frozen accounts over it. Most QR generator pages will not mention this. We will.
EZQR encodes whichever Venmo URL you give it — venmo.com/u/YourName for a personal Me page or venmo.com/YourBusinessHandle for a Business profile — into a standard QR that any phone camera can scan, with no Venmo app required on the scanner's side. Static codes are free, never expire, have no watermark, and keep working even if you cancel a paid plan later. Dynamic codes start at $5 a month on Lite, which is the right choice if you might rename the business or migrate handles. Either way, the QR you print today still works in three years.
Walkthrough
How to Create a Venmo QR Code
Pick the right Venmo profile first
Personal Me page (
venmo.com/u/YourName) for friends-and-family transfers — no fees, $4,999.99 weekly cap. Business profile (venmo.com/YourHandle) for customer payments — 1.9% + $0.10 per transaction. Using personal for sales is a TOS violation.Copy the exact profile URL
In the Venmo app, tap Share Profile and copy the URL verbatim — don't retype it. Typos route payments to similar handles owned by other users. Paste it into the generator above.
Customize without breaking the scan
Keep contrast above 4:1 between dark modules and background. Venmo blue (#3D95CE) on white reads cleanly; light blue on white doesn't. Set error correction to H if you add a center logo.
Download the right format
PNG for digital placement (invoices, email signatures, Instagram stickers). SVG for print at any size — signs, laminations, business cards. PDF for commercial print runs. Every export is unwatermarked.
Test before printing 200
Print one. Scan from an iPhone and an Android. Confirm Venmo opens to the correct profile name. Send $0.01 on a Business profile to verify fees and bank routing land where you expect.
Where it works
Venmo QR Code Use Cases
Café and bar tip jars on a personal Me QR — tips aren't customer charges, so the personal profile is legitimate here.
Food trucks and independent vendors on Venmo Business — clean 1.9% + $0.10 fee math, automatic 1099-K, no TOS risk on customer sales.
Stylists and barbers — chair-side QR with a printed 18/20/22% tip prompt so customers don't do the math.
Farmer's market and craft fair booths with a Business-profile QR on the price board — no card reader, no Square terminal monthly fee.
Driving instructor, music teacher, and tutor PDF invoices with the Venmo QR embedded next to the amount due.
Wedding and baby shower signage routing guests to a personal Me QR for cash gifts — tag as Goods & Services: NO.
Nonprofit donation tables on a Business profile — Venmo receipts work as IRS paper trail and 1099-K reporting is automatic.
Real estate open-house earnest money — buyers send the holding deposit on the spot instead of writing a check that takes three days.
Personal trainer and yoga instructor studio doors — clients tap on the way out, no chasing payment by text the next day.
House cleaner, dog walker, and handyman leave-behind invoice cards with the QR printed next to the amount due.
What works in practice
Venmo QR Code Best Practices
Use a Venmo Business profile the moment you charge customers for goods or services. Personal-profile sales are a TOS violation — Venmo has frozen accounts mid-week for it.
Tell customers explicitly whether to tag Goods & Services. Business: automatic, no tagging required. Personal Me for tips or gifts: leave OFF or get docked 1.9%.
Print your profile name as readable text near the QR. The scanner should confirm Paying: YourBusiness matches the sign before they hit send — this catches the typo-handle attack.
Mind the $4,999.99 weekly cap on personal accounts. A market stall doing $800/day on personal will hit the wall by Friday and the QR starts failing mid-transaction.
Use a static QR if your Venmo handle won't change for years. Use a dynamic QR ($5/mo Lite) if you might rename, migrate accounts, or switch payment apps.
Print at minimum 2.5 cm (1 inch) per side for counter placement; 5 cm for signs read at 2+ feet.
Skip glossy laminate — fluorescent lighting reflects into the camera. Matte reads cleaner under retail and bar lighting.
Add a specific prompt next to the code. Tap to pay $5 tip beats Pay with Venmo because the customer knows the amount before the app opens.
Verify the linked bank is your business operating account before printing. Routing customer payments to a personal account is how money gets stuck during a Venmo review.
