About UPI QR Codes
Generate a UPI payment QR your customers scan with PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, WhatsApp Pay, or any of the 50+ UPI apps installed on Indian phones. The QR encodes a structured upi://pay URI mandated by NPCI — Virtual Payment Address (your VPA, the name@bank handle), optional pre-filled amount, currency code, payee name shown to the customer, and an optional transaction note for your bookkeeping. The customer scans, the UPI app opens with everything pre-filled, they enter their UPI PIN, the money lands in your bank account in seconds.

How to Create a UPI QR Code
Get your VPA exactly right
Copy your Virtual Payment Address from PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, or your bank app — it looks like
yourname@oksbiormerchant@paytm. A typo prints clean and fails at scan, so copy from the app rather than retyping.Set amount and payee name
Pre-fill the amount for fixed prices (parking, tickets, donations). Leave open for retail tills where cart values vary. Use your registered shop name as payee — it shows to the customer before they confirm.
Download and stage scan-tests
PNG for digital. SVG for laminated counter cards or any print above 5 cm. PDF for print shops. Test on PhonePe and Google Pay separately — the same QR can open cleanly in one and stall in another.

Which UPI apps does this QR work with?
Every UPI-compliant app on Android and iOS — PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, WhatsApp Pay, plus 50+ regional bank UPI apps. The QR encodes the standard NPCI-mandated upi://pay URI, which every UPI app reads identically.
What is a VPA?
The Virtual Payment Address is your UPI handle, the name@bank string like yourshop@paytm or merchant@oksbi. It is the only required field in the URI; without a valid VPA the QR fails. Find yours in your UPI app under Profile.
Should I pre-fill the amount or leave it open?
Pre-fill for fixed-price items (parking, tickets, donations to a set tier). Leave it open for retail tills and restaurants where the cart value varies. Open-amount QRs are the more common merchant choice because one card serves every transaction.
Is the UPI QR really free?
Yes — static UPI QRs on EZQR are free forever, no signup, no watermark, full color and logo customization, PNG download. SVG and PDF export plus dynamic codes that survive VPA changes start at $5/month on the Lite plan.
What about Bharat QR?
Bharat QR is the inter-bank standard supporting UPI and EMVco card networks (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay) in one QR. EZQR generates pure UPI QRs by default — sufficient for most merchants because UPI app penetration is universal. For mixed UPI plus card acceptance from a single QR, your bank's merchant portal issues the Bharat QR.
